Scripture for today:
Ezra 2-3; Luke 8
Scripture-My special verse today:
Luke 8:19 Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. 20 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.”
21He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.”
Observation:
Jesus was implying that we have the best of intentions to serve Him but only when it is convenient. Should not following Christ cost you something. The hardest thing for people to give up is their time. So many say they love the Lord but find it difficult because they are busy to worship on Sundays. I have heard it said before that the Road to Hell is paved with good intentions. This person wanted to follow Christ but still wanted to cling to Dad and Mom. I think of the missionaries less than hundred years ago that kissed their family goodbye and said they would see them in heaven one day. Often family is the biggest thing thing that holds people back from serving God.
Application: We all have to ask ourselves do we really desire to follow God or it just words or cliches that we say for the moment. Being a committed Christian is a heart issue which requires daily discipline in staying connected. The closer we stay connected the closer our life and lifestyles reflect the will of the Father.
Prayer: May I not make excuses for following the will of my Heavenly Father.
