Scripture for today:

Zechariah 7-9; Luke 13

Scripture-My special verse today:

Luke 13:22 Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. 23Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?”

He said to them, 24“Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. 25Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’
“But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’

26“Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’

27“But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’

Observation: People inside the church like this verse because they feel they are in and people outside the church feel this verse is judgmental.  I did write the Bible I just believe in it.  Jesus was teaching that the road to heaven is narrow but when the door is shut many will try to get in.  Jesus just got finished in the verses above using analogies about yeast, mustard seeds.  The yeast and mustard seed grow inside us.  A direct correlation is when you are growing inside full of Christ you desire to be in the household of God and contribute.

Application: With the crisis of the stock market and shortage of gas it brings me to a truth that needs echoing during this time.  ALL WE NEED IS JESUS!  His presence allows us to walk that narrow road and not fall into the trap.  We put on faith in things that ultimately have no value.  We worship them but they cannot love us back.  The Christian life is a spirit filled adventure that feels your souls.

Prayer: Walking the road can be costly and lonely.  Thank you for those who have decided to walk it with me.  We have many people at Denver UMC walking that path.
