Scripture for today:
Esther 9-10; Luke 19
Scripture-My special verse today:
Luke 19: 45Then he entered the temple area and began driving out those who were selling. 46“It is written,” he said to them, ” ‘My house will be a house of prayer’[c]; but you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’[d]“
47Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him. 48Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.
Observation:
We always find Jesus in the Temple from an early age until today when he is 33 years old. The temple / church had a high premium in the life of Jesus. He desired for the temple to be “Pure and Holy.” Anything less than that was unacceptable. Jesus driving out the merchants was no different than his challenging the religious leaders in their heavy burdens that they placed on the people. Jesus was again their advocate cleansing another hypocrisy he witnessed.
Application:
What is so wrong with the church today? Why are so many choosing the God of athletics over the God of salvation? Why is Sunday the sabbath just another day and not set aside for God’s people to gather in worship and fellowship? I can only imagine what Jesus would say to how we have desecrated the sabbath with other activities and give so little back to the church financially when we have squandered it all ourselves and have little to show except a weak faith and faint commitment to the one who is the King of all Kings. This breaks His heart.
Prayer: Use me to make the Church “Pure and Holy” again!
