Scripture for today:

Nehemiah 1-2; Psalm 133; Luke 22

Scripture-My special verse today

Nehemiah 1:4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. 5 Then I said:
“O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands, 6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s house, have committed against you.

Observation:

Nehemiah was moved by the plight of his people.  That is a rare breed.  So many are callous to the plight of other people.  Nehemiah was comfortable but the news broke his heart.  It reminds me of the famous quote by Bob Pierce that was penned almost 40 years ago.  He said, “May the things that break my God’s heart break mine today.”  This implies that if it does not break God’s heart then maybe we should be so broken as well.

Application:

Profound!  Nehemiah is one of my heroes because when he hears something that breaks his heart he uses his God given ability to make a difference.  Everyone can make a difference if their heart is broken.  We are created to better our humanity not to destroy it by our selfishness.

Prayer:

Help me to respond when my heart is broken!
