Scripture for today:
Job 31-32; Galatians 5-6
Key Verses for today:
Job 31:4 Does he not see my ways and count my every step?
Galatians 6:7-10 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature[a]will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.ans
Observation: Nothing I can do that God does not know about. He knows my heart and my motives. He knows how much I love my wife and my children and how much of my tithe I honor. What I reap I do sow and cannot escape it no matter how clever I appear.
Application: We all say we like accountability but in reality we despise it. No one enjoys another telling them what they need to do with or in their life. Especially when it come to personal items like our walk with Christ. God does hold each of us accountable whether we like it or not. God does so because He loves us and desires to fill our life with His Father’s will.
Prayer: May I never be deceived to God does not my true colors.
Scripture for Today:
Job 28-29; Galatians 1-Galatians 2
Key Verse for Today:
Job 28:28 “Then he addressed the human race: ‘Here it is!
Fear-of-the-Lord—that’s Wisdom, and Insight means shunning evil.’”
Observation: Job was addressing that people cannot discover wisdom because it comes only from God. All these conversations with so called friends causing Job to reflect on wisdom.
Application: Fearing the Lord is the only way to walk with God. It is convenient to try all kinds of other modes such as works or reading the most popular books but that will be to no avail. People who anchor their lives on the fear of God are the smart ones not the ones who have a crutch.
Prayer: May I humble myself daily so my personal life fears God.
Scripture for Today:
Job 26-27; Mark 15-Mark 16
Key Verse for today:
Job 27:19 He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more;
when he opens his eyes, all is gone.
20 Terrors overtake him like a flood;
a tempest snatches him away in the night.
21 The east wind carries him off, and he is gone;
it sweeps him out of his place.
22 It hurls itself against him without mercy
as he flees headlong from its power.
23 It claps its hands in derision
and hisses him out of his place.
Observation:
Job is not speaking from Liberation Theology which is a voice of the oppressed. Job was wealthy and had lots of livestock and ten children. He had everything but most important he was righteous in God’s eyes. God was the one who recommended to Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job?” Satan believed that Job only followed God because he was a blessed man and if that blessing were taken away Job would curse God. The story of Job is to reveal his true colors.
Application: We know someones true colors when they do not get their way. What is in their heart becomes evident to all. Yes, it is true that we all are happy and cooperative when when life is rosy. But, life is not all rosy but is filled with trials and temptations. Doing SOAP is a deliberate attempt to our motives and attitudes revealing a changed life.
Prayer: May my true colors always bleed a life changed by Jesus.
Scripture for today:
Job 23-Job 24; Mark 11-Mark 12
Key scripture for today:
Job 23: 11 My feet have closely followed his steps;
I have kept to his way without turning aside.
12 I have not departed from the commands of his lips;
I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.
13 “But he stands alone, and who can oppose him?
He does whatever he pleases.
Observation:
Job’s words insights are unbelievable. After all his suffering, he still clings to his feet staying on the path. His assurance for staying on the path reveals his values. His life has been lived for God.
Application: Job sees that his life is not his own but God’s. What he wants means nothing. What he desires means nothing. His life is what God makes of it. This is powerful beyond belief. Our culture today is so emphatically centered on making each of us happy. We readily spout our opinions and love to get our way. Job was the complete opposite of today’s believer.
Prayer: May Job serve as our answer to following God.
Scripture for Today:
Job 16; Acts 21-23
Key Verse today: Job 16:1-6
1 Then Job replied:
2 “I have heard many things like these;
miserable comforters are you all!
3 Will your long-winded speeches never end?
What ails you that you keep on arguing?
4 I also could speak like you,
if you were in my place;
I could make fine speeches against you
and shake my head at you.
5 But my mouth would encourage you;
comfort from my lips would bring you relief.
6 “Yet if I speak, my pain is not relieved;
and if I refrain, it does not go away.
Observation: Job so called friends came and brutally offended him. He was looking for solace but they hurled accusations against him that he had sinned against God. They could not fathom that Job was righteous so they just kept spinning their advice that he was being punished for sin.
Application: So often when we are in need the people around us are not very helpful. They say words that hurt instead of words of love. When people are down they need encouragement that they have someone to lean on instead of being another judge. My heart goes out to Job in how everything was taken from him and yet his friends came and made it worse.
Prayer: Send me Godly friends.
Scripture for Today:
Job 13-14; Acts 17-18
Key verse for today:
Job 14:1 “Man born of woman
is of few days and full of trouble.
2 He springs up like a flower and withers away;
like a fleeting shadow, he does not endure.
3 Do you fix your eye on such a one?
Will you bring him [a] before you for judgment?
4 Who can bring what is pure from the impure?
No one!
5 Man’s days are determined;
you have decreed the number of his months
and have set limits he cannot exceed.
Observation:
Job is sharing with God how he really feels. When we are hurting we tend to reminisce about our life. We begin at childhood and go forward. Life goes by so fast that we take it for granted. Pain causes us to look back instead of forward.
Application:
Often times things are not as bad as they seem. We cause ourselves a lot of stress that is unwarranted. Life is full of ups and downs with wins and losses. But, our God is the same yesterday and today. No matter what our circumstances our hope is never in ourselves but in our Savior.
Prayer: Help me to be thankful of the good times with my family.
Scripture for Today:
Job 9-10; Acts 13-14
Key verse for today:
Job 9:5 He moves mountains without their knowing it
and overturns them in his anger.
6 He shakes the earth from its place
and makes its pillars tremble.
7 He speaks to the sun and it does not shine;
he seals off the light of the stars.
8 He alone stretches out the heavens
and treads on the waves of the sea.
9 He is the Maker of the Bear and Orion,
the Pleiades and the constellations of the south.
10 He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed,
miracles that cannot be counted.
Observation: He is God. God is all powerful and controls the earth. This power is submitted to by Job in the midst of his struggles. He is saying that God does what God wants when Gods desires.
Application: Even our pain is real and hurts to the bone we still have to submit to the God. He is the one who controls the universe and our destiny is in His hands. Because of this all I can do is submit to His authority and consequences whether I like it or not.
Prayer: May I always comprehend that the whole is in His hands.
Scripture for today:
Job 1-2; Acts 6-7
Key verse today:
Job 1:9 “Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. 10 “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. 11 But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.”
Observation: It is so convenient to PRAISE God when all is well. It is easy to take life for granted. Satan felt that Job would not praise God if things close to him were taken away. When times are good, everyone is happy.
Application: This scripture tells us to praise God either way. It is the same God. What faith does it take to praise God when you are on the mountain? But, when you are in the valley it is to forget or think why is Gods against me. We have to believe in sovereign will of God.
Prayer: Praise God everyday no matter what comes my way.
